First away game you went to?

Postby Lloyd Blues on 23 Jul 2010, 00:38

Been thinking long and hard about this one and obviously it's stuck way back in time in the mid 80's. I moved from Manchester and lived for three years as a kid in the Southeast before coming back up North in 1987. I'm pretty sure it was Charlton away when they shared Selhurst Park with Crystal Palace and we lost 0-5.

But I remember going to Ipswich away for a 0-0 draw. Both of these were obviously with my Dad as I was only a kid. Not sure out of the two games I've mentioned which came first?

Yeah it was, December 28th '92. Think yer said yer was on the Kop that day mate. Rushie scored a boss volley at the Anny Road to equalise in the second half.

Yeah I was on the Kop. Mike Sheron had a goal ruled out then Quinn scored at the Anfield Road end to put us 1-0 up. I can still see Ian Rush shaping himself for that volley even now. I remember a Scouser behind me lighting up a cigar and shouting 'c'mon Reds all out for the winner' and wanting to chin the fucker much to the disapproving looks of my Scouse girlfriend. And lets face it had I done it I'd have been killed

In fairness I had some good times on the Kop as I went to a few games. Looking back I feel very privileged to have stood there.

Away to P.N.E in the first round of the league cup. In the 96/97 season

We were 4-3 up (abd going through) with about a minute of injury time to play when Preston scored making it 4-4 and knocking us out. Graham Lancashire got a hatrick I think
